Ebay Shipping

Ever shop around ebay and find something that seems to be a great deal. You may wish to bid/buy now but you scroll down and see the shipping. $8.00 for a t-shirt or cd or something like that. The point being that it is obvious that the seller aims to make a few bucks off of shipping.

If you net over $1 on shipping you are a bastard. You should charge what you expect to be shipping costs WITHOUT your "labor cost" or as the economist would call it "opportunity cost". It should be a given that an ebay item will be shipped. Tell me you are so inconvenienced by selling the product you wanted to sell that you want me to compensate you for going to the post office.

Perhaps shipping should be included in the purchase price. However, we'd like a system where there could be some choice among shipping options such as overnight or first class, or UPSP or FedEx. (Woe unto you, you lame CD or DVD sellers who ship media mail but charge $5 to ship. You know who I'm talking about.)

The best thing, I think, is that people bid only on those who clearly advocate pure shipping cost pricing for shipping. Hell, even FedEx will pick up your package for you. Don't charge me an extra $3 to have your hot FedEx boy pick up the parcel. You know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I refuse to bid on items that have shipping that I feel is greater than I would charge for a similar item. Sometimes, when I get pissed, I'll email the seller and call them out on their high charge. Actually, if I want the item I'll negotiate before bidding...I've gotten a few people to agree to cheaper shipping. (Much of that just depends on the demand for the good.)

I guess it all could be complicated. Just beware and don't let the tricksters trick you and let's all be good people and see if we can get the tricksters to play fair and with clarity.

Ideas?
